so this is it.

college (noun): (as told by urbandictionary.com)

a magical place where it is rumored that learning takes place, although to those who enter it, it is often described as a beautiful land in which beer flows in amber currents next to a golden pasture

i've yet to see any beer-filled lakes, but the sight of such a thing wouldn't be terribly shocking. i'm not even sure i'd do a double-take.

today felt like college. i've become increasingly interested in pinpointing exactly what that entails, but i think when you start feeling like you got so little sleep that showering and eating don't really matter anymore, you've really nailed it.
it started with a never-ending paper writing fiasco ending around 3:30am.
  • 2:30am: realized that flashdrive containing all documents needed for completing assignment was left in the photo lab, a good, healthy 30-minute walk away. oh, my god. really?
  • 2:44am: redo all assignments with eyes half-open. failed to proof-read due to passing out on keyboard and waking up 45 seconds later. this could be bad.
  • 3:33am: remember that hygiene does matter, no excuses. scrub away dark circles under my eyes caused by late night paper writing with deep cleansing clay face mask. ahh, much better
  • 3:37am: pop in sex and the city for the 4th time this week. don't remember anything past pressing "play."
  • 7:56am: alarm goes off. er, rather, the first time i hear it go off. apparently it began at 7:15. again, not good. i've ruined almost every song i have ever enjoyed by setting it as my alarm ringtone on my phone. every time those songs come on in public places i feel the need to throw something at a wall.
  • 8:08am: begin sprint walking to early morning photojournalism critique with a brisk and anything-but-comfortable breeze. down a bottle of emergen-c energy drink for a peppy boost.

so that's college. i live a completely predictable and fairly normal college life, and that's just fine and dandy. sleep when its convenient, lose track of days, eat unusual combinations of food, and do what it takes to get through each day and onto the next. i ordered my first late-night pizza which was more exciting than it probably should have been. i have cold pizza in the fridge. i am now more legitimately collegiate than ever.

college is trendy. though colleges offers a lot of diversity in thought and opinion, we all generally want the same things. we like our local coffeehouses, late-night pizza places, and itunes playlists. we like bookstores, poster sales, lazy college clothes, and every microwavable food under $5.

i'm no college expert yet. i've only just entered into this surreal world that is the university lifestyle. no day is lifeless when you live amongst 28,000 surging minds. the college headaches are more frequent when it seems there is never a break in the day or the night -- but it is starting to feel comforting.

i could get used to this.
